Who we are

SHARP – Shelter Housing Aid and Research Project (Leicester) – was established in 1974 by the Leicester Shelter Group.

We are the only independent Housing Aid Centre that covers all of Leicestershire and Rutland.

Over 40 years, we have provided much-needed advice, help and support for thousands of people who have been homeless or facing serious housing problems in the City of Leicester and the counties.

Last year, we assisted over 1000 single people and families

Our trained advisers offer specialist housing advice to our clients. We can help you to make your case by writing letters or legal submissions on your behalf and can represent you at court or tribunal in some circumstances.

We can advise you on:

  • Mortgage repossessions
  • Disrepair
  • Problems with your landlord
  • Housing options to find accommodation
  • Welfare benefits advice
  • Other housing issues of a practical nature
We also have a team of trained volunteers who can provide practical assistance to people who may need help of a non-legal nature.
